Applying for NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to support people with disability. If your child meets the eligibility criteria, NDIS funding can help cover things like therapy, assistive technology, support workers, and other supports.
Applying for the NDIS takes time and often requires gathering evidence and filling out forms. But you don’t have to do it alone.
Who is eligible?
People may be eligible for the NDIS if:
- they are aged between 9 and 65
- they are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder and live in Australia
- they have a permanent disability or need disability-specific supports to complete daily life activities
- they need supports now to reduce future need for supports (early intervention)
Check out the NDIS Eligibility Checklist for more information.
How do I apply?
To apply for the NDIS, you will need to:
- download and complete an NDIS Access Request Form
- gather evidence from professionals (like reports from doctors, therapists or educators)
- Submit the form alongside supporting documents
A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can help people aged between 9 and 65 understand and apply to the NDIS or connect with other government and community supports.
For children under 9, an early childhood partner can provide supports to children before they apply and let families know if the NDIS is right for them.
You can learn more about the NDIS application process on their website or by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110.
