CYDA is the national peak body representing children and young people in Australia (aged 0-25) with disability. It is a not-for-profit community-based organisation with a vision to ensure all children and young people with disability are valued and living empowered lives with equality of opportunity.
Ms Kakoschke-Moore looks forward to leading CYDA in its work to empower children and young people with disability to fully exercise their rights and aspirations. “I’m just thrilled with the opportunity to lead an organisation doing such impactful work. I look forward to meeting CYDA’s network of young leaders and advancing the voices of young people with disability.”
In her most recent role at JFA Purple Orange, Ms Kakoschke-Moore supported the Enabled Youth Disability Network (EYDN), a youth policy and initiatives committee run for and by young people with disability. “It’s been a privilege to work on events and programs that provide genuine opportunities to connect, build leadership skills and engage in effective advocacy. I’m very excited to continue working in this space, upholding the principles of co-design and collaboration that make CYDA such a strong representative organisation.”
“Skye brings invaluable connections and experience, having worked collaboratively with government on policy that promotes human rights,” said Matthew Hill, chairperson of CYDA. “We were very impressed with Skye’s track-record and we are feeling very fortunate to have attracted such a strong candidate to the role.”
Ms Kakoschke-Moore is tasked with ensuring that CYDA continues its important work representing children and young people with disability, building on recent growth and success in the advocacy space and supporting CYDA staff and its newly appointed Youth Council in the outstanding work they do in the community.
“We are very excited to see what Skye will bring to the team,” said Mr Hill. “We are confident that we have found the right person to move us forward with purpose, ingenuity, and integrity.”
