CYDA’s submission to the consultation on Disability Safeguarding

Children and young people with disability face much higher risks of harm than their peers, including across many service settings.

That’s why the Australian Government’s new Framework and Strategy for strengthening safeguards for people with disability must put child safety at its centre.

In CYDA’s submission to the government’s consultation, we called for effective safeguards that focus specifically on children and young people with disability and promote high-quality safe services.

These must be grounded in the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, with a clear focus on child rights, participation, cultural safety, and preventing harm.
