NDIS and Foundational Supports
Our Campaigns
Across Australia, families are being left in limbo by systems that are meant to support them. From NDIS eligibility reassessments to foundational supports, children and young people with disability are too often left out of the conversation.
CYDA’s campaigns share the real experiences of families and young people, and push for change that restores fairness and transparency to the supports that should help every child thrive.

Thriving Kids
CYDA’s Thriving Kids survey heard from 1,500 families, children and young people with disability about the government’s new early-support program.
Respondents shared fears about losing supports and rushed implementation, and called for neuroaffirming, co-designed foundational supports that provide choice, stability and genuine inclusion for every child and family.
CYDA and 14 other organisations have urged government to ensure Thriving Kids is evidence-based, built on what already works, and allows enough time for genuine co-design before launch.

Eligibility Reassessments
Families across Australia are being left in the dark by unfair NDIS eligibility reassessments.
Children with permanent disability, especially Autistic children, those under 9, and those from diverse backgrounds, are losing access to vital supports without clear explanation or alternatives.
CYDA is calling for a fair, transparent, and trauma-informed reassessment process so no child is removed until Foundational Supports are in place.
Foundational Supports
In October 2024, CYDA surveyed more than 250 young people with disability, parents, and caregivers about their thoughts on Foundational Supports.
Nearly everyone (93%) said they did not have enough information to understand how they would be impacted by these supports, while nearly one in two were worried.
Many were also concerned that Foundational Supports:
- would replace NDIS supports
- would not properly address diverse needs
- would not be practical or useful

“A major red flag”: four in five warn Thriving Kids rollout is too rushed, CYDA survey finds
A new national survey of 1535 families and young people has found nearly 80% believe the government’s Thriving Kids rollout window leaves too little time to prepare, putting vital supports at risk.

Nothing about us without us
Disability Representative Organisations stand united in our reiteration to government of nothing about us without us.
