Students with disability face barriers in higher education, including inconsistent adjustments, inaccessible learning, and weak accountability from universities.
This month, CYDA partnered with the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) to prepare a joint submission to the Senate Inquiry into the Universities Accord (Australian Tertiary Education Commission) Bill 2025.
Together, we called for a stronger and proactive approach to inclusion. Our submission recommended:
- Strengthening oversight and accountability of universities
- Including accessibility and inclusion in funding and regulation
- Improving data collection on student experiences and outcomes
- Reducing reliance on complaint-based enforcement
These reforms are key to creating higher education environments where disabled students are supported to succeed alongside their peers.
