Minister for Social Services, Amanda Rishworth MP, has announced an increase in funding for 17 Disability Representative Organisations – including Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA).
The $11.2 million injected into the sector over 4 years, will effectively expand the sector’s capacity to do vital work advocating for the rights and needs of people with disability in Australia.
Chief executive officer of CYDA, Skye Kakoschke-Moore, was pleased with the announcement.
“This funding represents a commitment by the Australian Government to ensure the voices of people with disability are being heard through effective representative organisations. It will support CYDA to engage directly with young people and their families on the issues that are important to them through co-design and consultation, and to advocate for the rights and needs of our community in key areas such as inclusive education and accessible youth employment.
“We look forward to working closely with government on policy and programs that directly improve the lives of children and young people with disability and their families.”
