Great way of showing how some young people fly under the radar
A look into the lives of an autistic young person who struggles with masking. The book explains overstimulation through the use of animals (her dragon and her puppy).
I think it was a great way of showing how some young people fly under the radar or ‘don’t seem autistic’, and that it’s not helpful and leads to a lack of understanding around their access needs. It may be helpful for autistic children in understanding themselves and how to explain their feelings.
Very pretty illustrations. Potentially a few too many concepts at once: masking, dragon, puppy. Written in a way that compliments other books in series but may lose some of the context when reading separately.
I’ve seen young people think autism was an anger condition- concerned that the concept of anger and sadness being the focus points that it continues the misconception and negative look of autism.
Could be helpful for students understanding of autism.
