Children and young people with disability and their families are more likely to experience higher rates of violence and often face barriers to getting the support they need.
Some groups are at even greater risk, including women, First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with intellectual disability, and gender-diverse people with disability.
In CYDA’s submission to the Department of Social Services’ Consultation on the Second Action Plan (National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032), we call on governments to:
- Strengthen safeguards to prevent violence against disabled children and young people
- Strengthen disability-inclusion prevention and early intervention
- Protect rights by making sure children and young people with disability are safe, supported and heard
- Improve how disability, child safety and family and domestic violence services work together
