Choice, control and flexibility in how NDIS funding is used are essential for children and young people with disability and their families.
This is particularly true for young people aged 18 to 25 as they move into adulthood.
For the proposed NDIS New Framework Planning and Support Rules to be effective, they must help young people access appropriate supports that respond to their changing needs, without unnecessary restrictions or administrative barriers.
In CYDA’s submission, we call for:
- Assessments processes grounded in lived experience that do not leave participants worse off and allow for review and appeal
- Support rules that protect young people's choice and control, flexible funding that responds to changing needs, and youth impact assessment
- Changes to be communicated to young people early and often at key transition points, in plain language and accessible formats
