Children with disability living in rural, regional, and remote communities face unique barriers to accessing early childhood education and care (ECEC).
This includes fewer services, workforce shortages, and poorer transport connections and internet access, among others.
In its submission to the inquiry into the state of Australia’s ECEC system in these communities, CYDA called on the government to provide:
- Equal access to quality and inclusive ECEC for everyone
- Early identification and access to appropriate supports that meet individual needs
- Better resourcing and training for early childhood educators
- Stronger safeguards so children do not lose supports as Thriving Kids is introduced
- Funding and planning that address extra barriers faced by these communities
Every child, regardless of where they live, deserves to grow up attending quality and inclusive early childhood education and care.
