Evaluating the first four years of Australia’s Disability Strategy (ADS) 2021-31 should involve the lived and intersectional experiences of people with disability from all walks of life, including children and young people.
CYDA’s feedback to the Department of Social Services outlines ways to make sure the evaluation of the ADS is inclusive and centres the voices, intersectional experiences, and expertise of people with disability.
CYDA recommends the Evaluation:
- Involves people with disability, including children and young people, through targeted engagement by Disability Representative Organisations and other channels
- Appoints a Steering Committee with lived and intersectional experience of disability, including identified and remunerated positions
- Also evaluates the National Disability Data Asset, including disability indicators
It is vital the Evaluation scope prioritises lived and intersectional involvement, so that the next six years of the ADS reflect the diversity of needs and experiences of people with disability.
