Early childhood education and care services play an important role in every child’s development.
That is why CYDA welcomes the government’s decision to amend the Disability Standards for Education (2005) to cover the whole ECEC sector, as recommended by the Productivity Commission.
In our recent submission to the Federal Department of Education’s consultation, we make the following recommendations:
- Broaden and clarify the scope of definitions for ECEC services covered under the Standards
- Expand the type of services to be included in the Standards
- Make sure future amendments to the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) consider services that provide instruction in a particular activity
These measures will help make sure children with disability are set up for success from their early years.
