The Federal government’s Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 represents the biggest shake-up to the Scheme since its creation.
With 67% of new people entering the NDIS aged under 15, its changes will disproportionately impact children and young people with disability and their families or caregivers.
CYDA’s submission to the Senate Inquiry into the Bill focuses its recommendations on four key areas that matter to our community. These include:
- Priority Area 1 – Eligibility based on functional capacity
- Priority Area 2 – Support determinations
- Priority Area 3 – Definition of permanence
- Priority Area 4 – Other aspects of the Bill
We are concerned the rushed legislation emphasises unprecedented cost-cutting over the lives and well-being of younger generations.
It tightens eligibility, reduces critical types of funding, restricts access, and undermines NDIS integrity – all while strong safeguards and alternative supports remain unavailable.
CYDA calls on the government to adopt its recommendations and listen to the disability community at this crucial point for the future of the Scheme.
