The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) Act sets the rules for how universities and other institutions must deliver high-quality education.
But currently these standards do not properly support students with disabity, who already face barriers to enrolling, accessing and taking part in tertiary education.
In this submission, CYDA calls on the government to review and strengthen the Act by:
- Adding a positive duty that requires universities to actively improve inclusion
- Raising curriculum standards by embedding Universal Design for Learning
- Making sure programs have disability awareness and inclusion taught to students
These steps will help create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students, and a more inclusive society when these students gain professional employment.
