Young people with disability are one of the most disadvantaged cohorts in the labour market. We call on the government to address the additional barriers to employment that young people with disability face, many of whom access mainstream rather than disability-specific employment supports.
In our submission, we urge the government to consider the following when designing the new employment services:
- Ensure processes and services are responsive to the needs of young people with disability
- Consult young people with disability in goals, plans, and service design
- Build provider and employer workforce capacity towards disability inclusion
