In August 2024, CYDA presented the government with our submission to the inquiry on the draft lists of NDIS Supports for the NDIS Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024.
In it, we strongly urge the government to reconsider their fixed approach to listed supports and instead consider a principles-based approach.
We present seven recommendations and outline four key principles that must be included in NDIS Supports, including that they:
- Are reasonable and necessary
- Are related to a person’s disability
- Take into account what is provided by other government supports
- Represent value for money.
This submission draws on and amplifies our previous submission to the Independent Review of the NDIS and results from our survey and consultation with young people, parents, and caregivers.
Three in five NDIS participants are children and young people under 25, yet they continue to face significant marginalisation due to age-related factors, legal constraints, and limited agency.
Insights from the community highlight the urgency for the provision of quality NDIS Supports that are specifically aligned to their needs.
