This online group session is for young people with disability and employers to connect and network.
We know that networking can be scary! But it’s also be a great way to make contacts and be remembered when opportunities come up.
There is no right or wrong way to network, but having a go and finding your style is a great way to move forward in your leadership and employment journey.
In this session, we will support young people with disability to:
- start a chat with employers working in a range of different fields
- make professional contacts
- get advice about what employers want and how to stand out
- learn about professional pathways
- find out about inclusion practices in different workplaces
We will support employers to:
- talk to young people with disability about what they have to offer
- gain advice on accessibility and inclusion directly from young people with disability
- meet with a pool of potential employees with diverse skills and backgrounds
How does it work?
This session is for young people with disability and employers who are members of the DREAM Employment Network (if you are not a member already, you can sign up when you register for the session!).
In the DREAM sign up form, we ask young people with disability about what kinds of work you are interested in doing (for example, community services and social work). In this networking session, we will do our best to match young people with employers from relevant fields.
The group will be split up into breakout rooms of 5-10 people, with a CYDA staff member in each group to facilitate.
Accessibility
We want to make sure that everyone can participate in the group networking session! To that end:
- the group networking session will have captions.
- you can take part in the session verbally or in the chat (whatever works best for you).
- you can can have your camera on or off.
- we ask everyone in the session to state their name before they speak, so that people with vision impairment always know who is speaking.
- we will have a speaking order to make sure everyone in the session has a chance to take part if they choose (no pressure to speak if you don't want to, you can always choose to skip your turn).
- you can take breaks as needed.
